Video: Placebo, nocebo e relazione terapeuta-paziente

Objectifs

Mentre la medicina molecolare ha compiuto passi da gigante nella diagnosi e trattamento di molte patologie, la relazione terapeuta-paziente è stata troppo spesso trascurata dalla medicina moderna. Eppure le parole contano. Le moderne neuroscienze ci possono oggi descrivere cosa succede nel cervello del paziente quando interagisce con il proprio terapeuta. Per farci capire tutto ciò, l’effetto placebo è un eccellente esempio di come l’interazione fra colui che cura e colui che soffre produce cambiamenti nel cervello che possono essere benefici. Le condizioni più studiate sono il dolore e i disordini del movimento, come la malattia di Parkinson, dove le vie biochimiche implicate sono state identificate e analizzate in dettaglio. Ciò che sta emergendo è che questa interazione speciale e unica, dove il paziente crede e spera, attiva gli stessi meccanismi che sono attivati dai farmaci. Anzi, sarebbe meglio dire il contrario: sono i farmaci che attivano gli stessi meccanismi delle parole, visto che queste ultime sono nate prima nel corso dell’evoluzione. Maggiore è l'interazione fra il terapeuta e il suo paziente, maggiore la probabilità di successo di una terapia. Perché le parole sono farmaci, e sono spesso tanto importanti quanto le molecole.
